Cycling is an eco-friendly activity that helps protect the environment, and many countries in Europe, including the UK, are encouraging it as they face problems like air pollution and heavy traffic. (18) ____________. Over the past year, however, the number of people cycling in London has risen by an impressive 45 percent. (19) ____________.
Question 18.
A. Despite having only 20 million bikes, the British were long seen as keen cyclists
B. Most of Britain’s 20 million bikes saw regular use, showing limited cycling enthusiasm recently
C. In the 2010s, the British weren’t keen on cycling, with only 5 out of 20 million bicycles in use
D. Hardly any enthusiasm for cycling was evident in Britain recently, as regular use accounted for almost all bicycles nationwide
Giải thích:
- A. Despite...
- C. In the 2010s... only 5 out of 20 million... - ĐÚNG: Cung cấp bối cảnh quá khứ (sử dụng ít), tạo đà cho sự tương phản ở câu sau ("However... has risen").
- D. Hardly any enthusiasm... accounted for almost all - SAI: Mâu thuẫn nội tại (không hào hứng mà lại dùng gần hết xe).
Question 19.
A. However, London has been cleaner and quieter than many European capitals
B. As a result, the capital has become a cleaner city compared with others in Europe
C. In comparison, London has been classified as among the most polluted cities in Europe
D. In terms of pollution levels, other cities across Europe now rank lower than London
Giải thích:
- A. However...
- B. As a result... - ĐÚNG: Chỉ kết quả logic (nhờ giảm ùn tắc, không khí tốt -> thành phố sạch hơn).
- C. In comparison... most polluted - SAI: Sai thông tin (trái ngược với ý đang cải thiện môi trường).
- D. In terms of pollution... rank lower - SAI: Sai nghĩa (ám chỉ London ô nhiễm hơn các nơi khác).

- A. which has recently encouraged... - ĐÚNG: Dùng đại từ quan hệ "which" thay thế cho cả cụm sự việc/dự án phía trước; nghĩa tích cực phù hợp mạch bài.

- C. has introduced new guidelines... - SAI: Không nêu bật được kết quả/tác động tích cực.

- C. In order to manage... - SAI: Sai quan hệ mục đích.
- D. Unless...
